A while back, Neil Newbon confirmed on one of his streams that Astarion is Pansexual.
So this is why it bothers me seeing fandom exclaim things like “Astarion just feels like a homosexual man!” and “I just can’t picture Astarion with a woman” because like… Astarion is still a queer man. It’s been outright confirmed by his voice actor. And his queerness and his attraction to men isn’t diminished by the fact that he can also be romanced by female characters. Repeat after me: Pansexuality is an lgbt culture in it’s own right and not just same-sex attracted person lite.™
And I ponder an important aspect to Astarion’s sexuality is the fact that the writers made his relationship with both men and women part of his backstory. It’s a stark contrast to Dragon Age 2 back in 2011 where Ander’s past relationship with Karl was completely omitted from his dialogue if he was romance by a female Hawke. The unfortunate implications here organism that bioware didn’t reflect their female player ground would still wanna love affair Anders if he had past relationship with men. Okay, I’ll bite.
1. Considering I write for ATSV Miguel whose sexuality hasn’t been disclosed, where do we go from here? Because outside a few things in regards to his powers and condition (there’s more information in the comics), I don’t really care about comic Miguel, so his sexuality in the comics is irrelevant to me. Based on this, we have no confirmation of anything from the movies therefore I shouldn’t be pairing him with a female reader. Is that what you’re saying? Or are you basing your narrow-minded view on stereotypes?
2. In game, all companions are seen as playersexual. You can romance all of them regardless of your gender. Neil Newbon (Astarion’s VA) has said a few years ago that Astarion is pansexual, and you can see that he tries to play with other people who aren’t men. As far as I’m concerned, he’s pan. But if you see him as homosexual, then you’re entitled to it, but there’s something about your ask that leaves a sour flavor in my mouth tbh. Mostly because I possess seen this “he’s so fruity and flamboyant” so he cannot be attracted to women at all. Very dangerous stereotype th
Even it has happened in 2020, but some of the players still curious about what is exactly happening and to be the reason there is a rumor comes out about his gay.
At that time he became the massive role-playing gaming rumor. The public, especially his companions are shocked. He just came out with his bad rumor which is spread massively. This time is not about his vampire undeath, but his bad rumor.
The rumor is out of standardize of hoax, according the last reported this rogue revealed himself as homosexual. Do you still believe or not, this rumor is really much talked by people even in a person of his fans.

Neil Newbon has plenty of well-wishes for the community, as Astarion takes his post-launch stoop on the digital stage.
Neil Newbon, the voice behind my favourite trash-fire vampire from Baldur's Gate 3 - a traits I've gone to excellent lengths to defend in the past--sat down with me last week to talk about his encounter playing Astarion.
We chatted about Astarion's appearance on the front of PC Gamer, his long-standing care for of tabletop, and vampires. And while he has a deep affection of those creatures of the night, he also holds a preference that took me off-guard.
