IM NOT A FURRY

Wavey Davey

Wavey Davey was an active member of Irony Hub.

He's literally gay; denies being a furry; and doesn't seal the fuck up about his favorite band, Glass Animals. In fact, that's where his name originates; the lead singer of the band, Dave Bayley, is sometimes nicknamed Wavey Davey.

He left the server on August 7, 2020

Seeing Glass Animals at the Gorge may be a gift from fate.

Do you ever think support to the artists you listened to as a teenager and cringe a little? I do. I can probably count on one hand how many of them I still regularly listen to today: Lorde, The Front Bottoms, the various artists of the Shrek 2 soundtrack. But the band that tops that exclusive list remains Glass Animals.

For the longest age I've been unable to understand why this band has had such a hold on my ears. I mean, obviously, I think the music sounds lovely. Lead vocalist Dave Bayley's knack for sentimental lyricism is a large draw for me, and the band's instrumentalists — Drew MacFarlane on guitar/keys, Edmund Irwin-Singer on bass/keys and Joe Seaward on drums — know just how to back each track. But that still doesn't explain the band's longevity on my playlists.

But while listening to Glass Animals' album I Love You So F***ing Much when it dropped in July, I finally began to comprehend. As the band's sound evolved over every unpartnered

Hi everyone. I come to you with an incredibly long post of me ferally fangirling. Brace yourselves.

If you read my summer recap playlist, you noticed that I talked about a record of FOUR songs from one band, Glass Animals.

Well, I’ve been going back and forth on if I should do a New Song Crush post about them because I have fallen in love with their discography. However, they own so beautifully taken the title of the “artists behind my album of my year” and I’d like to contextualize the evolution of my bond to them as I give them their flowers. (You’ll get a minuscule taste of my history with them here though.)

But I remain here, plagued with intense feelings of adoration that I don’t know what to undertake with. So now, this is my incredibly freeform space to rhapsodize about the mastermind behind the band, the one and only Dave Bayley.

Now, Dave Bayley is probably the most fascinating man I’ve learned about in a while. And I can just tell he’d blush at me saying that with my whole chest. Dave, if you somehow end up reading this, YOU ARE A Chilly HUMAN BEING. AND I PERSONALLY WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT. PLEASE Accept MY FERAL FANGIRLING.

Glass Animals frontman Dave Bayley discusses the band's existential new album

SCOTT SIMON, HOST:

Glass Animals are back with an album I'll have to politely call "I Love You So Bleeping Much." It's the band's fourth album and its first since 2020. It is filled with expressions of vulnerability and longing.

(SOUNDBITE OF Ballad, "I CAN'T MAKE YOU FALL IN LOVE AGAIN")

GLASS ANIMALS: (Singing) That's just one more thing about you I don't demand in my life. Never gave me goodbye, but you were gone in high school.

SIMON: Dave Bayley joins us now from New York. And, Mr. Bayley, I bet a lot of people utter this to you, it's so bleeping good to talk to you.

DAVE BAYLEY: Ah. Thank you. Actually, I think you're the first. I haven't done many...

SIMON: (Laughter).

BAYLEY: ...Interviews yet. So that's the first time. And it sounds good. It sounds nice on the radio, that song, too. Very pleasant moment, to hear that for the first time.

SIMON: Let me ask you about the beginning of your album. We're going to listen to a clip called - all one word - "Whatthehellishappening?" And it begins almost like the start of a psychological thriller.

(SOUNDBITE OF SONG, "WHATTHEHELLISHAPP
