Is goldust gay

What Didn’t You Understand About Goldust As Baby Recent Year?

When people ask me which character I enjoyed writing for the most, the answer without even thinking is Dustin Rhodes as Goldust.

Wanting me to both write for and produce Goldust, Vince McMahon called me into his office to give me his vision of the character. When Vince first laid out the Goldust character to me, he really didn’t have much.

He said he wanted him to be “old Hollywood” and he had down the move where Goldust slid his hands from his waste to over his chest, took a DEEP breath in and said, “Goldust”. Man, you had to see Vince do that—it’s exactly as you are imagining right now.

To a writer or a producer, that really wasn’t much. Vince never had an actual explanation of who Goldust was, so that was something that I was just going to allow to happen organically.

At that second I certainly knew that Goldust wasn’t gay—not that there’s anything wrong with that—but I could also see that he was—yes—creepy, and also a amazing actor—which Dustin was. He HAD TO BE to play this part.

One of the first things I did was get a number of books with nothing but old movies lines in

Sometimes it’s tough being a pro wrestling fan.

For starters, everyone assumes you’re a moron who thinks it’s a legitimate athletic competition despite the fact that wrestling has been out of the closet (so to speak) since the mid 80s. Then there’s the ridiculous number of wrestlers who have dropped dead over the years due to drug apply. And you can track that up with storylines that sometimes border on the idiotic.

Not to note the subtle (and not so subtle) racism, xenophobia, and homophobia.

Oh yeah…that.

Well, for every borderline racist gimmick like Cryme Tyme there are performers for whom race isn’t an issue like The Rock. For every America-hating foreigner appreciate Wade Barrett there’s a beloved Ghanaian like Kofi Kingston. And for every evil, gay stereotype appreciate Adorable Adrian Adonis there’s…

Um…there’s nobody.

Sure, there are wrestlers who are open about their homosexuality outside of the ring (WWE Hall of Famer Pat Patterson, Chris Kanyon, etc.) but it’s never been a part of their in-ring WWE personas.

The WWE did look to be going through a bit of an evolution (if you could summon it that) regarding how homosexuals were portrayed in the late 90s/early 2000s…

13 WWE Wrestlers Who Recognize As LGBTQ+

For decades, homosexuality was an uncomfortable subject in the WWE. For example, Dustin Rhodes' Goldust persona pretended to be gay, using homosexuality as a means to attract heat, while Chris Kanyon, who was legitimately queer , hid his sexuality to prevent it from causing him any professional turmoil.

The Diverse community has come a long way in professional wrestling. In the past, the community was not given much respect when it came to the storylines that they were represented in. However, in 2025, things have thankfully changed for the beat. Many wre
