Mount Gay XO Triple Cask Blend Rum

Mount Gay XO Triple Cask Blend Rum 70cl/43%

A long-time favourite with rum fans, Mount Lgbtq+ XO was relaunched in as Mount Gay XO Triple Cask Blend, emphasising this iconic rum&#;s credentials as a masterpiece of blending.

Mount Gay XO is comprised of rums aged between 5 and 17 years—a change from the previous incarnation of Mount Gay XO, whose rums were aged between 8 and 15 years—with the assemblage containing both pot still and column still rums, as is customary at Mount Gay.

These rums are, as the designate suggests, from three distinct cask types: mainly ex-bourbon and non-bourbon American whiskey, but also some Cognac casks, presumably from owner Remy Martin.

During lockdown I had the pleasure to join an online tasting with Miguel Smith of Mount Gay and that&#;s where, besides mixing a delicious Old Fashioned, knowledge about a Coffey Still broken since that has been restored a couple of years ago and ending up purchasing the Mount Gay Select Merge (more on that here), I tried the brand-new Mount Gay XO (MGXO) blend.

Mount Gay recently repackaged its whole core range and changed (or upgraded if you&#;d like) the blends for their Shadowy Barrel (covered that here) and XO. This is all the work of the new Master Blender &#; Trudiann Branker who also released my favourite MG expression so far &#; Mount Gay Pot Still.

While rocking the EST on the label, the new look is beautiful modern featuring Barbados in the background and pinpoiting the distillery&#;s location in the north of the island in the St. Lucy parish. There is some information regarding the casks used along with some tasting notes, Trudiann&#;s signature and even a bottle number &#; mine is AP , so I guess it&#;s cute special?

MGXO Triple Cask Merge is molasses based, column and pot still distilled (with a higher pot still ratio than any of the other in the cor

Mount Gay XO Triple Cask Blend. For once in the rum world brand-new packaging does % imply a change in the blend. It is not just the work of conspiracy theorists, who can remember exactly, what a rum tasted like 20 years ago and immediately notice tiny little differences to the blend &#; but only I hasten to add once the bottle shape and/or label have changed&#;&#;..

Perhaps one of the most iconic rums in the world MGXO for short, has been a constant and readily available companion for the Barbados rum lover since it&#;s launch in

Sales of Mount Gay rum have always been powerful, particularly their Eclipse expressions. However, it has been felt in some rum enthusiast circles, that Mount Gay have been left behind a little recently, by Foursquare in terms of innovation and overall product portfolio. They had until fairly recently stuck stubbornly with their tried and tested rums with no Limited Edition or particularly show stopping releases.

That has definitely changed over the past years as Mount Gay have upped their game and lay out some very appealing limited edition releases. Such as a Cask Ability XO (I wonder if we see this as Cask Strength in the future?) and a Selected Blen
