They say that the guys in LA are so incredibly handsome because either they want to produce it in the movies or their parents did, failed, but still settled in the city.
There must be some truth in this as physical perfection seems to be the norm in the male lover villages of West Hollywood or Santa Monica and Venice beaches. There’s a head-turner on every corner.
Sun and surf
The weather is of course as matchless as the Angelenos’ teeth. The saying is that LA has two seasons: summer and January. This means there is plenty of opportunity to chief to Santa Monica and Venice. Both have boardwalks that are almost Southern European in their pedestrian-friendliness.
You won’t see many guys swimming in the sea. It&#;s not only because no one would be able to admire their bodies if they are submerged, but because there is the cold Alaskan current makes the fluid rather chilly. Even the surfers wear suits.

Venice is the gayest beach in California, especially if you like muscle. This is where bodybuilders of all sexual persuasions enter to show off and walk up and down the km boardwalk eyeing one another.
The epicentre of this sensory overload is Muscle Beach, a section two blocks up from Venice Boulevard, where two open-air pens are situated, complete with spectator seats. One is for weightlifters and the other is for gymnasts and acrobats.
Even if you are not into beefcake though, there is an “alternative” counter-culture feel to the shops, bars and restaurants on the beachfront and in the grid of narrow streets emanating from the boardwalk that appeals to gay guys, whatever their preferences. Venice is simply a great place for a stroll. It’s not exactly sleazy, but it’s trashy enough to make a difference.
How to get there
To reach Venice by car get on the Freeway and twist into Venice Boulevard West which ends on the beach itself. There are parking facilities there but don't count on discovery a space on weekends. In short, yes, Los Angeles is viewed as a very gay-friendly destination. We felt very safe and very welcomed as an open gay couple in all parts of the city that we visited, not just when we were in West Hollywood.
