IS DUBAI REALLY GAY FRIENDLY?
In a region where being gay is illegal, there are obviously no hotels dedicated to the LGBT community. Nonetheless, Dubai has some of the best luxury hotels in the world, established for their avant-garde décor, spectacular infinity pools, satisfactory dining restaurants and fantastic spa experiences. Male or female couples (even if with less problems) sharing a bed are prohibited. While the Sharia police will not raid your hotel rooms, many hotels tend to automatically assign a room with separate beds or will combine an extra bed without your knowledge. However, most international luxury brands grant gay couples to divide beds, as long as this is done w

Dubai is a magnificent experimentation in combing intense Islamic traditions with a ruthlessly futuristic vision, all amidst an exquisitely desolate desert landscape.
Dubai is sleek rooftop terraces, vast shopping complexes, a world-class skyline, lavish infinity pools, scorching beach clubs and, well, just an excessive amount of wealth and gold. Many would argue this grand experiment has been a supreme success, but for the LGBT community, this leap into modernity is very much a facade.

As Islamic Sharia Law is applied, all sexual relations outside of a heterosexual marriage are considered a crime. The maximum penalty for a person convicted of homosexuality is ten years i
How can a sense of belonging be forged in a setting where one’s existence is forbidden? That is the question that LSE’s Dr Centner and his co-author Harvard’s Manoel Pereira Neto explore in their groundbreaking research into Dubai’s expatriate gay men’s nightlife.
But it was not an easy topic to research. Dr Centner explains: “It's an illegal, or criminalised, identity and position of behaviours and practices, so in a very general sense, it's a taboo. And taboo subjects are very often under-researched, sometimes because people own a hard time gaining access, gaining that depend on, but also because, even if people gain that access, there could be significant repercussions for themselves as researchers, or for the people who are the research participants.
“As two queer researchers, we were able to enter the worlds of relatively privileged Western gay expatriates. Secrecy is often the norm, but the field was familiar to us, through previous visits and explore projects.”
These were indeed ‘parties’ ...[but] not bars identified as gay. Not a single venue’s webpage uses the word ‘gay’ or related euphemisms, nor execute they hint at targeting
Dubai Gay-Friendly Bars
Dubai has no gay bars, as you may have assumed. It does, however, have an underground gay scene centred around private parties. That being said, there are a number of gay-friendly bars. Just be mindful that public displays of affection are ill-advised in Dubai, for both queer and straight couples.

Although not a gay bar - there aren't any, it's Dubai - Level 43 Sky Lounge is a very Westernized drinking life. Located in Four Points by Sheraton Sheikh Zayed Road, you'll be greeted with panoramic views of Dubai. The cocktail list is excellent. Most of the drinkers and staff are international.
