The area’s LGBTQ+ people knew a good opportunity when it arrived, so when the Turkish Bath at the Northern Hotel closed in the 1940s, Pioneer Square gained a new space for queer men to gather. The baths were in the basement of the Northern, a large red-brick-and-gray-stone elevated Victorian motel that had been popular during the Alaska Gold Rush. While the sexuality of the bathers who visited during the early 1900s is unknown, at some gesture around World War II, customers were almost exclusively gay men.

While a bathhouse is often viewed as a solely sexual room (and indeed, men did have sex there), it was also a social space. As the era of gay civil rights dawned, other bathhouses that served gay men opened in Seattle, though South End, with its longer history, tended to tug an older clientele. A sense of community flourished in bathhouses, and some went because they were considered less prone to raids than, say, a bar. In the 1950s and 1960s, the operator of Steam Bath, Edwin McCleary, was also paying off cops, eventually handing over close to $200 a month.

We offer 2.5-hour and 90-minute private voyages. Our communal voyage is 90 minutes. However, if you would like to book for longer or rent our saunas for your personal event email us to discuss.

We have a licensed captain that will get together you at the dock and drive you for your tour.

We’ll slowly form our way around Lake Union on communal voyages! For private voyage, we can take you to Lake Washington too (weather-permitting).

Our saunas are wood fired and the temperature ranges from 104-200 depending on how sweaty you’re looking to get.

Bathing suit and a water bottle is recommended - we’ve got the rest covered.

Not to worry, we have a chilling room that is out of the elements and also out of the heat. You can also take a paddle in Lake Union to really cool off or use our on-board bucket shower!

Yes, we have a rooftop for relaxing on with plenty of room to lounge outside.

We propose two different experiences: a private voyage for 6 people that is booked for one group only OR a communal voyage with 6 people where you will be similar with other groups for a more social experience!
