PRIDE EVENTS
While June is national Pride month in the US, in Columbia we like to keep the celebrations going throughout the year. Starting with Outfest in June, this one-day festival focuses on the local community - showcasing vendors and most of the talent from the Columbia region. Headlining an unforgettable show in 2022 was Willow Pill, Season 14 winner of RuPaul's Drag Race.

“Grandma” comes everyday for content hour, sitting with other old-timers. When he can, he stays late to watch the drag shows and the younger crowds they bring.
“Grandma” is otherwise known as Bill Skipper. The 74 year vintage is the president of The Capital Club and one of its founding members. He has been president since the year it opened in 1980. He likes to say younger people about The Capital Club’s early days, a very different — and fraught — hour to be in a gay bar in South Carolina.
“The kids now, I love the freedom they feel. I love it,” he said. “We’d hold loved to have had that (freedom), but we all drink from wells we didn’t dig.”
The Capital Club, or simply “Capital,” as patrons call it, is the oldest operating gay bar in Columbia, and according to its website, in the Southeast. Just around the corner is PT’s 1109, the city’s other gay lock, which opened in 2000.
Through discussions with bar owners and patrons and reviewing records from Historic Columbia, The Carolina News and Reporter uncovered a strange statistic: Columbia, in 2022, has only those two gay bars, the lowest number in the urban area since 1960. The number peak
Columbia LGBT Walk/Run Club
Welcome to the Columbia LGBT+ Run/Walk Club! Come slay in the great outdoors! Everyone is welcome including allies! Runners and walkers of all abilities invited.
The objective of the club is to foster community while enjoying some exercise in the great outdoors! For the LGBT community of Columbia this offers a chance to connect with others while promoting a healthy mind and body.
Meet at the Columbia Canal and Riverfront Park at 2pm according to the event calendar. Look for the group organizer holding a flyer next to the entrance sign. Inspect the group photos for a picture of the sign. Feel free to send the organizer a message if you include any trouble.
We will start by stretching and doing an introduction before walking together to warm up. We’ll then break off to run or hike at any pace! Perceive free to push yourself on your own dash, run with a buddy, or keep walking in a group. At 3pm we’ll come back together to do a hip down.
